The President Casino Laclede’s Landing was the most popular tourist and gaming destination in Laclede’s Landing in Saint Louis, Missouri before closed down and was cut up and sold for scrap in 2010.
Then owned by NASDAQ-listed casino operator and gaming company, President Casinos, the President Casino Laclede’s Landing was a riverboat casino opened in 1993 and operated aboard the SS Admiral riverboat.
Shortly after the much-beleaguered President Casinos filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005, the President Casino Laclede’s Landing was purchased by Pinnacle Entertainment for US$ 31.5 million. It then formed part of Pinnacle’s two-casino Lumière Place complex at Laclede’s Landing. Unfortunately, President Casino Laclede’s Landing ultimately declared bankruptcy too in 2009, and had to be broken up and sold for scrap when no buyer came forward at auction in 2010.
In its heyday, however, President Casino Laclede’s Landing featured 73 500 square feet of gaming space, 1 200 slot machines, 33 table games, and two restaurants.
A Little Further Back in Time
The President Casino Laclede’s Landing actually took its name from that of the vessel aboard which it operated. The SS Admiral was then also known as The President and was the country’s largest inland waterway passenger steamboat in 1937.
For 56 years, The President cruised the Mississippi on passenger excursions and was docked at the Gateway Arch. After President Casinos purchased the vessel in 1993, it became one of the four original riverboat casinos that opened in Missouri as soon as riverboat gaming became legal. At that point, President Casino Laclede’s Landing was moved north of Eads Bridge and was permanently docked after state law no longer required riverboat casinos to actually sail.
Slots and Video Poker Machines
As mentioned, President Casino Laclede’s Landing featured 1 200 slot machines, with popular titles including Fabulous 50s, Megabucks, Anchor’s Wheel of Gold, Elvis, Wheel of Fortune, and Wheel of Gold. Included in the President Casino Laclede’s Landing slots library were 321 nickel slots, 242 dollar slots, and 19 five-dollar slots, among others.
In addition to these slots titles, President Casino Laclede’s Landing featured a number of video poker, video blackjack, and video keno machines on the main casino floor.
There were also 33 table games from which President Casino Laclede’s Landing players could choose. These included three-card poker, blackjack, Caribbean Stud poker, craps, face-up online blackjack, Hold’Em, multiple-action blackjack, poker, progressive Hold’Em poker, roulette, and seven-card stud poker.
